Wilson School Rehabilitation and New Construction
he rehabilitation of Andrew H. Wilson School Main Building and the construction of a new Addition and Cafeteria/Gymnasium Building; and demolition of the Annex, Gatekeeper's Lodge, Boiler Room addition to the Main Building, breezeway, and shed is vastly approaching.
However, before things move forward, the Broadmoor Improvement Association (BIA) must begin a Recordation process as required by FEMA, to capture the historical significance of structures that will soon be demolished and/or altered on Wilson's campus - A National Landmark of Historical Places recognized by the National Trust and LA State Preservation Office.
As a part of the Recordation process, the BIA must develop an interpretive display to be located in the Wilson School, its new Addition, or the Cafeteria/Gymnasium Building on the history of the school and information on buildings that were demolished or altered as part of the Undertaking. Please note that the interpretive display does not have to be completed in order for construction to begin, but prior to the opening of school scheduled for fall 2009.
Today, the BIA is calling for all interested parties to get involved to help plan for the interpretive display. This is a wonderful opportunity to document the long standing history of Wilson School that does not solely rest with the physical structures, but also with the countless lives that were touched while attending Wilson. I know we have Broadmoorians who are history buffs, former students and/or faculty of Wilson that will have a tremendous impact on this project....please get involved on this project!
The BIA is forming a committee for this exciting opportunity and will host a brief meeting on Monday, March 10th from 7-8PM at the Broadmoor Offices 4514 S. Derbigny to begin our historical journey!!! In the meantime, we are looking for those interested in possibly chairing the committee. To find out more, please contact me at BIA at 309.2561.
